Project Description

WANDERLUST

Follow the lights.

There are places which existence in this world I find difficult to comprehend.  From outside its entrance Upper Antelope Canyon is little more than a crack in a wall of Navajo Sandstone, but from within exists an ethereal world of light and shadow, shapes and lines, colors and reflections.  Though only an eighth of a mile long, I could wander endlessly in this slot canyon and never run out of compositions, awe, or wonder.  Every turn reveals new sights and one could easily get lost in its tranquility… if not for the constant interruption provided by live human beings being herded from one end to another.

I’ve had my mind set on this scene of a miniature Monument Valley ever since I first saw it five years prior.  At that time, harsh sunlight and a bad exposure prevented me from capturing an image that reflected the beauty I saw.  I returned determined only to completely misfocus what I believed to be a great composition.  It was not until later post-processing my photos that I realized the composition I had  glossed over in-camera actually proved to be much stronger.  This image is exactly what I seek to capture with my photography, with the chaos of the lines, colors, and shadows somehow blending together in complete harmony.
