PRIMORDIAL
The distinctive red peaks of the Sievers Mountain are revealed in the aftermath of an Autumn storm.
It is easy to miss the smaller features within an area when that landscape is dominated by an icon such as Maroon Bells, but to classify the Sievers Mountain as a “smaller” feature is to dispense gross injustice. One of the first things that caught my eye in this area was not the Fourteener itself but rather a lone aspen brilliantly displaying its peak foliage as the surrounding trees began to wither. I looked for interesting compositions but it wasn’t until visiting this area after a clearing storm that the image revealed itself. The fog rolled back just as the last light hit the mountain peak and luckily I was in the right place to capture the distinctive red hues of the Sieves augmented by the yellow aspen groves. This landscape looked prehistoric in origin; one that stood for ages unchanged. Within minutes the light had passed as did another day in the Colorado wilderness.
