Project Description

INFERNO

Is it hot in here?

There are many ancient ruins scattered around Southern Utah, perhaps none more famous than House on Fire in Mule Canyon.  In the late morning sunlight reflecting off adjacent cliffs accentuate the rippled patterns in the upper face above these ruins producing an inferno like effect.  This is a relatively easy flat hike, but I did wait for about an hour before the light was good.  In the meantime I chatted with a few hikers from the Friends of Cedar Mesa group, who regularly hike the area to protect it with watchful eyes.  I have strong admiration for people who devote their free time acting as stewards for these sacred sites, although I imagine the incredible views to be sufficient payment.
