Project Description

BLAZE

A spectacular sunset ignites the skies above Horseshoe Bend.

High above Horseshoe Bend the compositions begin to blend together.  There are only so many places to plant a camera around the semicircle cliffs but really from only one angle angle can you capture the namesake of this meander of the Colorado River.  With such limited compositions skill gives way to luck, and a good photograph here is determined by the sunrise or sunset conditions nature has in store.  I have shot Horseshoe several times but have always been met with bland days.  On this January evening things appeared no different, as the sun was obscured by thick clouds wandering the horizon and the sky transitioned from blue to a dreary gray.  However as the sun dipped the clouds lifted, allowing just enough light to reflect and ingite the sky with brilliant colors.  If nothing else photography has taught me patience and persistence.  No matter how bleak things appear, persevere!
