Project Description

SALVATION

A shroud of fog envelops the valleys and warps the peaks of Bryce Canyon

I spent this frigid morning at Inspiration Point after an overnight snowstorm blanketed the canyon floor.  Minutes after sunrise I spotted something I had never seen before in Bryce: a dense fog gathering miles into the distance enshrouding ridges of hoodoos while revealing others in a childlike game of hide-and-seek.  As the cold winds picked up what initially appeared to be a slow moving mist rapidly descended towards my location.  I had a short amount of time to work with the fog, but it happily cooperated and began to add layers of mystery to an already spectacular morning in Bryce.  Minutes after shooting this scene the fog blew up towards the Rim and was thick enough that I could barely make out the shape of my camera directly in front of me.  Then just as quickly it completely dissipated and lifted the curtains on the crystal clear Amphitheater below.  The ephemeral conditions of Bryce and never knowing what to expect is what keeps me coming back time and time again.
